How To Identify Friendships Worth Keeping

Having friends and companions are a basic part of our human experience, but at the same time, we can either choose to have good or bad influences in our lives. Making sure the company we keep brings out the best we can be, then take stock of who you are close to, and who are major parts of your life.

Look at these ideas and see if maybe your friend falls into one of these categories:

One real obvious thing to be aware of as a big indicator of whether or not they are positive influence is if you do things with them you normally wouldn’t do.

Maybe you start hanging out with your buddy and going to places you never did before, like a bar or to party somewhere. This is a pretty good sign that these activities are not things you would usually want to do, so why are you going to do them with your friend?

Don’t think that you have to act a certain way or do certain things to get their approval. If you are falling into that peer pressure trap, maybe it’s time to get new friends.

A guilty conscience can do wonders, and if you feel bad about hanging out with certain people, then there generally is a reason for it, and you should listen to yourself. When you start wondering why you are with these people, this is a good sign that its time to get out.

Another thing is that sometimes friendships are seasonal in life and don’t last long. Sometimes we outgrow them and try to hang on to something that is not meant to last. When the time comes that you are wondering why bother, then it’s time to get going.

Don’t settle for someone that is not good for you to be around. You have the choice of who you can be hanging out with as well as the activities you are doing. If you need to break away from a bad one, don’t feel too bad about it and just get it over with and get on with your life.
